“La tarde trae sonido de alas”
Author: Miguel Ángel Ojeda
Technique: Oleo sobre lienzo
Year of creation: 2013
Year of creation: 2013
This colorful painting is
one of the newest pieces of art exhibited at MUSAS in Hermosillo, Sonora. The
picture joined to the author’s collection called “El extraño viaje del tiempo”.
Ojeda is from Culiacan, Sinaloa.
My first impression was
attractive and funny because of its colors and the shape the author uses to
draw the houses. The painting makes you feel you are moving like kind of waves,
and I do not know much about art and stuff, but in my opinion is not a typical
style of shapes.
He details every space in
the painting like the stone pavement, the long wooden windows, and the elegant
and simple balconies with their view to the downtown square. The sunset is a
strong characteristic from the northern of Mexico and they are like Ojeda
painted it, sometimes yellow almost orange, rose almost reddish and lilac
almost purple. Even he used strong colors, the painting does not look
saturated, I mean, he knew the best balance for it. Actually, he is using
tertiary colors such as lilac, coral, different tones of green, etc.
I think what the author
wanted to transmit to public in this group of pieces, is a mix between
traditional or colonial places with modern life. His inspiration comes from the
culture and history of Mexico; architecture such from cathedrals, colonial
downtowns, temples, streets, square, etc. And the modernity comes with these nice-looking
colors he used, and which was what I most liked and as I already mentioned,
what caught my attention. Also, I think the author is trying to reflect what really
is happening with our cities and specially our little towns. That maybe, with
this modern age, most of these places are losing their characteristics and
origin from what they really were. They are suffering this phenomenon called
acculturation that means like a type of clash of cultures.
I like his idea of mixing up
this two ideas, tradition and modernism, because while little towns and village
people do not lose their origin, I do not see any problem to give them a little
touch of modernization. I mean, everything has to keep in advance and development.
Anyway, I never understand
art, and this one is not the exception. I didn’t understand why Ojeda in this whole
collection, has the musicians, the couple in a cloud and thousands of cats (the
animal what I hate the most by the way). The sky just seems at it because of
the blue color, but not cause of the white circles. Also, I did not find the
meaning or the sense of the name of this piece of art.

Prehistory
Our ancestors were brainy and brilliant in many
ways, especially in survival circumstances. They discovered fire and used this
for brightness and sometimes as a weapon; primitives were the best hunters and
gatherers, they learned how and what to eat from hunting. They were the first
ones who started drawing, and as we saw at class, they can be called artists.
They started painting in caves everything they saw, maybe in hope or with the purpose
that one day somebody could interpret them and inform how things started once
upon a time.
I have been in many archeological sites and museums, so I believe that
primitive knew the best way to teach us about the ancient times, I never used
to think about coincidences because everything is exactly and has logic. Their
religion, culture and manners is so exciting.
When I saw this video, I knew about the paintings and weapons they used,
but I didn’t know anything about constellations its relation with the zodiac
signs. I admit that I always wanted to know where zodiac came from, but
honestly I have the same doubts the video mentioned. Why these people had to
compare constellations with animals? I know because of the form or shape, but I
think this is a coincidence, I mean astronomers today aren´t sure how ancestors
measured. How can astronomers compare degrees or inches with measures of
centuries ago? So I have to say, this video just informed me but didn’t
convinced me.
